Raphael O. Boyd, JD

Assistant Professor

Raphael O’Hara Boyd is a Professor of Business Law. He is currently serving as the Chair of the Management and Marketing Departments. His educational pursuits have earned him a Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law, an M.B.A. from Atlanta University, a B.S. from Atlantic Christian College, and a certification from the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s School. His responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in business law as well other business courses. Raphael’s efforts in the classroom have been highlighted by four Department of Management Teacher of the Year Awards in the School of Business and a nomination for the Aldridge-McMillan Faculty Achievement Award, a universitywide award nomination. He was the subject of a biographical note three times in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and once in Who’s Who in Business Higher Education. 

His research interests include employment discrimination, medical law, legal accounting, and legal history. He has published in a number of scholarly journals and proceedings, primarily in these areas. In addition, he is also the Editor of the Southeastern Journal of Business Law, which is listed in Cabell’s Publishing Opportunities, and has served as Tract Chair at scholarly conferences. 

Raphael has served in a variety of capacities at the institution including the Promotion and Tenure Committee, the Admissions Committee, the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society, and the University Review Committee. He has previous teaching experiences with the University of Houston-Downtown Campus and North Carolina A&T State University. He has worked professionally with several organizations such as Exxon Company USA and the Commissioners Court of Harris County (Houston, Texas). His bar memberships include the Pennsylvania State Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. Other professional organizations for which he has affiliations are the Southeast Academy of Legal Studies in Business, the Southeastern Case Research Association, and the National Bar Association.
